Creating Self-Care using the 5 Love Languages

The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman is a great book if you are looking for an understanding of how you express and receive love. This is beneficial regardless if you are in a relationship. We do use the love languages in all relationships in our lives.

You can take the free test to understand your love language here: https://www.5lovelanguages.com/

This blog post is focusing on how we give ourselves love more than giving it to others. I think it is important to figure out your love language first so that you can understand how you can give this love language back to yourself during your self-care. This will also be helpful if you are struggling to think of how to reward yourself when meeting a habit, completing a goal, or maintaining motivation.

Here are the 5 Love Languages and also ways to show yourself love through each love language:

  1. Physical Touch

Massages

Weighted blankets

Physical activity

Spa days

Skincare routines

Swimming

Stretching

Showering/baths

2. Acts of Service

Therapy

Planning

Scheduling

Cleaning

Delegating

Going out

Meal planning/prepping

3. Receiving Gifts

Vacations

Buying supplies for hobbies

Buying yourself gifts

Indulgences

Investing in yourself

Attending a class

Making a self-care kit

4. Quality Time

Meditation

Relaxing/downtime

5. Words of Affirmation
